DOING BUSINESS AT FANTASIA
Montreal producer/director and Fantasia’s own operations manager, Philippe Spurrell is happy to announce that his first feature, THE DESCENDANT (2007) , has recently been picked up for cable distribution in Canada and can be seen regularly on the Super Channel network. http://www.superchannel.ca/movies/view/46601080/The-Descendant
This important sale came about through professional contacts made during the Fantasia festival in 2010. As well, the film’s substantial completion funding was obtained directly through discussions during the festival that caught the attention of executive producer Philippe Chabot who was looking to invest in a feature film back in 2004. Chabot has since developed other projects with foreign producers introduced to him at Fantasia. (Including 9TH WONDERLAND sequel to one of Fantasia’s top award winners in 2009, 8TH WONDERLAND.)
Stories like this are but one of many that make festival organizers excited about this year’s efforts to create a more formal market. Fantasia will eventually become a key stop for local and international players wanting to develop exciting film projects.
